Inadequate Completion Of Advance Care Directives By Individuals With Dementia: National Audit Of Health And Aged Care Facilities

Objectives: (i) Describe the prevalence and type of advance care directives (ACDs) other planning (ACP) documentation completed by persons with dementia, healthcare providers others on behalf a person dementia; (ii) identify personal ACP programme characteristics associated having in health record; (iii) self-completed ACD. Methods: A multicentre audit was undertaken Australian hospitals, general practices residential aged facilities. Auditors extracted demographic data from records eligible patients. were provided site representative. Logistic multinomial regression used respectively to examine factors completion any documentation, self-completion an ACD dementia. Results total 1388 people dementia (33.2%) 96 sites included. Overall, 60.8% (n=844) had documentation; 31.6% (n=438) 29.3% (n=406) document professional or someone else their behalf. Older participants more likely have documented. Multivariate analyses indicated odds documents, compared no plan else, significantly influenced age, country birth, setting whether training, policies guidelines. Discussion: While 60% some form only half cases which documented included themselves.
